ATHENS AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

PERSONAL HISTORY

.

TO BE DEVELOPED

WRITTEN: The Museum has available and has documented a number of interesting personal histories of notable folks in the Athens area. The histories come from the Athens Times, local newspaper articles, war remembrance stories, the Tombstone Tour and information received from the local community. A task group will be established to start the process of accumulating, sorting and grouping these stories and then developing a way to enter them herein to make them available by name.

AUDIO/VIDEO RECORDING: In the past few years the Society has lost some members who, even at the later stages of their lives, had minute detailed recollections of Athens during its early years. Some could even speak the native language of the local indians. It is regretful that the time was not taken to make audio and or video recordings of those individuals so that their experinces could be shared by those that followed them. The Society has decided to alliviate this problem by initiating a project to video/audio record present/past members by conducting personal interviews. This project could then be expanded to include other groups (such as the VFW) which could provide the Society the information.
